Approved second and third phase human trials of corona vaccine in India

People are waiting for the vaccine amidst the Corona crisis worldwide. Regarding this, scientists from all over the world are engaged in research and trials. Meanwhile, the second and third phase of human trials of Oxford's Corona vaccine have been approved in India. The Serum Institute of India (SII) has been approved by the country's top drug regulator- Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for the second and third stage human trials of Oxford's potential corona vaccine in India.

After a thorough evaluation, DCGI has approved the Serum Institute of India (SII) to conduct a clinical trial based on the recommendations of the Clinical Expert Committee (SEC). Significantly, in India, the Clinical Trial Serum Institute of India (SII) and Oxford are jointly conducting the Corona Vaccine in Oxford.

Earlier, the Subject Expert Committee on Corona Affairs recommended the country's drug regulator Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) to allow the Serum Institute of India (SII) for the second and third stage human trials of the corona vaccine at Oxford University was. Based on this recommendation, human trials of this vaccine have been approved.

The proposal for a human trial of the Oxford vaccine was discussed through a virtual meeting at the SEC earlier this week as a swift regulatory response. After considering the data generated on the vaccine in the first phase of the Oxford University trial, the committee recommended permission to conduct.

During human trials, each person will be given two doses within 4 weeks (first dose 1 day and second dose 29 days), after which safety and immunity will be assessed at predetermined intervals. The pharma firm has to register the safety data, assessed by the Data Drug Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB), to the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) before it can proceed to Phase-3 of the clinical trial.

Community spread may slow with BCG vaccine

The BCG vaccine used to prevent the spread of TB disease can slow community spread of the corona epidemic within thirty days. The vaccine is administered within 15 days of birth to protect children from TB.

This increases the immunity of children and they protect against infectious diseases. Scientists in the report published in the American paper Science Advances say, BCG vaccine has been successful in controlling its spread and deaths in the first thirty days of the onset of infection.

According to the researchers, as of March 29, a total of 2467 patients died of corona. Had the BCG vaccine been made compulsory, the figure would have been 468, which is only 19 per cent of the total deaths. This result has been revealed after a study on 135 countries.

Researchers say that vaccination of BCG is carried out in the vaccination campaign of India and China, as a result of which the rate of deaths there is low. Some doctors also believe that the BCG vaccine is effective in preventing corona.

But too early to say clearly

Public health expert Dr. Anant Bhan says that the BCG vaccine will protect it from corona, it is circumstantial, but not scientific. It is too early to say anything clear. This is because it is used not only in India but also in Brazil and there have been a large number of patients and deaths.

Similarly, Dr. Shashank Joshi, dean of the Indian College of Physicians, says that BCG vaccine is mandatory in Portugal and there are very few cases of corona there, while the situation in its neighboring Spain is bad. To check the effect of the vaccine, 18 medical colleges have been tested on 250 patients, the result of which will come in the next two-three months.

ICMR in preparation to create Corona Patients Registry

In the midst of the accelerating pace of Corona, ICMR is preparing to create a registry of hospitalized patients across the country. From this registry, steps can be taken by knowing about the recovery of patients and the pace of epidemic.

The National Clinic Registry, formed in collaboration with the ICMR Ministry of Health and AIIMS, will provide patients with correct information, treatment, age group infections and other information so that scientists can formulate future strategies.

This should include 15 renowned institutes including PGI Chandigarh, AIIMS Delhi, AIIMS Jodhpur, Nimhans Bengaluru, Armed Forces Medical College Pune, which will collect data by keeping in touch with medical colleges and hospitals.

Ask for suggestions on giving smartphones to the infected

The Center has written a letter to the state and Union Territories seeking suggestions on allowing smartphones and tablets to Corona patients admitted to hospitals. In the letter, it is said that since patients have smartphones, they will be in touch with the family through video calls so that they can remain mentally strong.

Director of the Director General of Health Services under the Ministry of Health, Dr. Rajiv Garg has written this to the Chief Secretaries of Health and Medical Departments of all states. He said that hospitals can fix time at their level through which patients will be able to contact their family.

Serum Institute company is engaged in the preparation of the Corona vaccine in collaboration with scientists at Oxford. This vaccine is being developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University.

Since corona infection is spreading very fast in India. The total number of Corona positive cases has crossed 17 lakhs while more than 37 thousand people have died. In such a situation, vaccine will be needed in India on a large scale. It is believed that Adar Poonawala can deal with the situation between India and the rest of the world by 50–50 to deal with this situation.

Adar Poonawala says that the cost of his vaccine will be extremely low. He claimed that along with booming, very few people can produce vaccines at low prices. He says that for the first batch of vaccine, he is getting calls from people from India and abroad, but he has to convince those people that he cannot give vaccine to anyone like that.

The Serum Institute of India has sought approval from the Government of India for testing of Oxford's vaccine ChAdOx1 on humans in India. Poonawala said that soon after getting the approval, we will start testing the vaccine in the country. Simultaneously, the work of making vaccines in large quantities will also be started. Earlier it was claimed that if everything remained true then by the end of the year this vaccine would be available in the market.

Adar Poonawala says that the Serum Institute of India will initially focus on making 40 to 50 lakh vaccine doses every month. Later its volume will be increased from 35 to 40 crores annually, so that everyone can get the vaccine. Poonawala also says that his company is considering launching its own vaccine by the end of next year.
